Privacy Policy

How The Culinary Knife Bible collects, uses, and protects information about visitors.

This privacy policy explains what information is collected when you visit The Culinary Knife Bible (culinaryknifebible.com), how it's used, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible while keeping the site free to read and supported by advertising.

Effective date: 2026-05-22 Site operator: Andy Garcia (a personal project; contact details below)

What information we collect

We do not require you to create an account, sign in, or submit personal information to read the site. Information is collected only through standard web mechanisms when you visit:

  • Aggregate page-view data via Vercel Analytics: Vercel records anonymous, aggregated metrics (page URL, country-level location, referrer, user agent type). This data is not linked to your identity and is used only to understand which pages are read.
  • Server access logs: Vercel's hosting infrastructure logs standard HTTP request information (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, response code) for operational and security purposes. Logs are retained per Vercel's standard policy.
  • Advertising data via Google AdSense: once advertising is enabled, Google AdSense and its partners may collect data about your interactions with ads through cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies. This is governed by Google's privacy practices and your browser/OS-level ad-personalization controls.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not run email lists, newsletters, or contact forms.

Cookies and similar technologies

The site uses cookies and similar storage mechanisms in the following categories:

  • Analytics cookies: Vercel Analytics uses cookieless tracking by default, so no analytics cookies are set.
  • Advertising cookies: Google AdSense and its certified partners may set cookies to deliver and measure ads. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, Google's IAB TCF-compliant Consent Management Platform (CMP) presents a consent dialog with Consent, Do not consent, and Manage options before any advertising cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time via the consent control in Google's CMP. For visitors outside those jurisdictions, advertising cookies are set as part of the standard AdSense flow.

You can also block or delete cookies at any time through your browser's settings, and adjust ad personalization independently at https://adssettings.google.com. Doing either may affect functionality of advertising features.

Third-party services

The site uses the following third-party services. Each operates under its own privacy policy:

  • Vercel (hosting and analytics), privacy: https://vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy
  • Google AdSense (advertising network, once enabled), privacy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
  • Bluehost (domain registrar), privacy: https://www.bluehost.com/legal/privacy-policy

Some pages link to external sites (artisan knife makers, sharpening service providers, etc.). Those sites are independent of The Culinary Knife Bible and have their own privacy practices.

Ad personalization and your choices

Once advertising is enabled, Google AdSense may use cookies to show you ads relevant to your interests. You have control over personalized advertising in several ways:

  • Opt out of Google personalized ads: https://adssettings.google.com
  • Opt out via the Network Advertising Initiative: https://www.networkadvertising.org/choices
  • Browser-level "Do Not Track" / Global Privacy Control: most modern browsers offer settings to signal an opt-out preference. The site honors GPC signals where present.

You can also reject all non-essential cookies via the consent banner, in which case no advertising cookies will be set.

Rights for California and EU/UK residents

If you live in California (CCPA / CPRA), you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information is collected about you
  • Request deletion of personal information
  • Opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

The Culinary Knife Bible does not sell personal information for monetary consideration. The site's use of ad cookies may qualify as "sharing" under CPRA, and rejecting non-essential cookies via the banner is the on-site opt-out mechanism.

If you live in the EU or UK (GDPR / UK GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion
  • Object to processing or withdraw consent
  • Data portability
  • Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the details below.

Children

The Culinary Knife Bible is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as the site evolves (for example, when advertising launches or when new analytics tools are adopted). The effective date at the top of this page indicates the most recent revision. Material changes will be reflected on the site's homepage when relevant.
